Kick-start your career – concept of “EAT”

Do you want to continue your studies further or get into a career soon after finishing your engineering/ diploma?  This is a question that pops up in some of your mind. Definitely the answer depends on two important factors: your financial capacity to invest and also your ability to score well in your higher studies. If both conditions are favoring you positively, then go for higher studies that can place you on a better platform for exploring a premium career path. On the other hand, if your financial position demands a faster placement or you are not the kind of high scoring student, then better to look ways of entering an early career path.

Whether you are desperate for a job immediately or willingness to wait and find the best job, the job market does not treat the fresh candidates with respect. The demand for the fresh candidates is only 15% whereas job demand of candidates with an experience of 1 to 5 years is 45%. The reason is simple; most of the fresh candidates are not employable as observed by the industry. Employability of fresh BTech candidate is 55% and that of diploma candidate is 21% as per the latest survey. Understanding this figures are extremely crucial for a candidate to be wise to pick up an early job, no matter whether it meets his expectations completely. Even if you get an ordinary job that keeps you occupied for one year, you should go for it since you would become the second category of 1 to 5 years experienced candidate at the end of one year which will take you to a market having 45% job demand. Naturally, you will get better job that pays you well and might provide you better growth

Concept of EAT

I would suggest a new concept here. It is a concept of grabbing an early job without being fussy about the place of posting or salary package for the first one year. The faster you catch your first job, the better you get placed in your career ahead.

E: Early Job

A:  Anywhere posting

T:  Take home salary just to meet your minimum expense

Some candidates keep waiting for the right placement which could be invariably delayed leading to idling of candidates without any assignment resulting in frustration and loss of interest. Decision making has to be always quick as opportunities do not wait for anyone. It is your life and hence you have to take a wise decision.  If you ask for opinions and advises from people who have no experience, you might get confused or misguided.  I have seen parents and friends sometimes wrongly advising the candidate to go for higher studies without doing an assessment on their ability to pursue studies successfully.

Another matter of concern of candidates during a job offer is the place of posting since most of them prefer a hometown posting so as to continue staying with parents and enjoy their circle of existing friends and family members. Some candidates are also afraid of moving out of state unwilling to adapt different food, culture or weather conditions. It is not known to many candidates that any new environment will trouble us only first couple of months as one would adjust and accept the changes by that time and all the fear vanishes smoothly thereafter.

Finally, the salary part: As a fresher, you will not be productive from the day one and companies have to invest to train you and make you perform your job reasonably well. It is your learning phase and hence do not bother about your take home salary. You should be able to manage stay, food and most essential expenses from your earnings during the first year. Don’t worry about savings or supporting your family during this period as this is a time of learning and creating domain experience. If you do well in your job, you will definitely get positioned well in the same organization with a clear path of career growth as your employers want you to stay and grow with the company. Else, you will have opportunities to explore outside leveraging your work experience.

Hence be wise to become an early bird while exploring your career- EAT
